Three ladies

A sketch from a magazine article about a tragic event. no date but I will say it was 05

Sketch from a painting

This sketch wasn't labled so I'm guessing here. I remember this sketch as one I did from either a photo or a painting that my mom did. I think we were just trying to work out some tonal patterns. I'll update this if my memory comes back.
Probably from 05

Model with her hair pulled back

Another sketch from the 03 sketch book. This one is labled Glamor Magazine. So It was probably drawn from a color photo from that magazine.

Mona

I found an old sketch book stuffed in a drawer from 03.
I spent two week in Paris and that really got me energized. In the days ahead you'll see some of the sketches I did there. and some while I was in route. Enjoy and comment.

Early 03 sketch of Our Lady of the Rocks

To me Sketches like this are much easier than Plien Air painting. I can study a piece like this and feel every bit of the texture of the skin, the hair, the emotion. With Plein Air the experience is alot more immediate, somthing I'm not completely use to yet. The challenge is to work, work, work,
until these sketches come from history into the present.

Young Jody in Clay

This is Jody. I used a gray clay as you can see. The texture is a little different than the brown clay. Both work great for this kind of work.

Clay Portraiture

These three sculptures were done for a Collage class. It was my first introduction to clay.

Alba's Mother

Portrait of Alba's Mother. from a photo

Clay Face

Clay is really an interesting artistic material. so forgiving and flexable. this piece was done in 2006.

Ocean Sunset

This is another 2006 painting from Dana Point, California

Beach Palms

This is a painting that I did in 2006. Dana Point, California

Mother and Child

Impressionist Transitions isn't just about painting. It's about art. Here is a medium relief sculpture that I made several years back. If you want to know the reference I will look it up in my old sketches but for now just enjoy the work.

Eucalyptus Study

Sometimes it's a good idea to copy the works of the masters to learn better composition, color, brush work etc. That's the case here.

Eucalyptus 347

This group of Eucalyptus trees caught my attention as I was going to meet a friend for lunch last week. I stopped and pulled out my paint box and did a quick study. Later in the studio I painted this 18X24.

Eucalyptus wind brake

There are many locations like this in California. It has been said that no matter where you go in California you will find Eucalyptus trees. They are plentyful in the populated desert areas as well.

Coastal Rocks

This rocky outcropping was caught at slack tide. was approaching, Laguna Beach California

Colombia Garden

This is a large painting 24X36. The scene is from the cover of a book called Colombia Gardens perhaps you've seen it.

Open Scape

I really enjoyed painting this scene. In the distance you can see the hills near the Cajon Pass leading to Vegas and the great beyond.

Rocky Outcropping

The desert offers many opportunities to capture rugged landscapes on canvas. Here's my take on a rocky outcropping that just had to be painted.

Adaption of Canyon Trail

This painting is a large Triptych that I painted for a head board. shown here it's still in the frame that was made to keep the panels in alignment for painting. The inspiration for this work came from a painting called Canyon Trail .

Dunes 344

A walk on the beach on a sunny day can bring out the best in me it also brings out the best in color and form. With a fairly barren background and a lively midground this painting came to life.

Desert Rain

Nature has so much to teach us. This is a scene I captured after a heavy rain in the high desert of California. The rain was short but it made a lasting impression.

Eucalyptus study, 235

It only take one of these beautiful trees to get me inspired and today there were Three.

Late summer day 346

I drew inspiration for this little jewel from a location that just presented itself as I drove along the California coast near Los Osos.
